<p>This is a self-paced tutorial for information literacy instruction.  It was initially developed by Librarian Kitty Mackey of Clark College, with funding from a grant from the Distance Learning Council of Washington.</p>
<p>If you make assignments involving information research IRIS will almost certainly provide support for your efforts. We in the Spellman Library have been editing IRIS to incorporate GHC-specific examples, so it presents both general principles which students can use elsewhere after completing their studies here, and also specific guidance for using GHC’s library.  That editing will continue—but there is no reason you can’t begin to incorporate part or all of these lessons into your classes.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-family: Calibri,Verdana,Helvetica,Arial;">The GSA (Gay/Straight Alliance) on campus has been working very hard this year to educate and advocate for anti-bullying and harassment of the LGBTQ community in schools.</p>
<p>The GSA is participating in the Day of Silence on April 14th on our campus. Students will be tabling in the HUB on April 11th-14th to have people sign up to participate. On April 14th there will be stickers, pencils to write with and Silence cards explain that students are participating in this event.</p>
<p>At 2:00 pm in the HUB there will be a Breaking the Silence event where students will break their pencils and share their experiences from the day. A potluck and Night of Noise will follow in the HUB.</p>
<p>The official color of the Day of Silence is <strong><span style="color: #ff0000;">RED</span></strong>. I know that many staff/faculty/exempt cannot participate in being silent all day but you can show your support by wearing red that day to let the students know that you are an ally of the cause.</p>
<p>Please be mindful of the faces of the students who are being quiet on campus. The whole day is about raising awareness about the people that would be missing from our lives because they ceased to exist. Many LGBTQ individuals take their lives forever silencing themselves because they could no longer endure the harassment/bullying.<br />
